Went Fishing....At Last

After sooooooooo long, i could not remember since when, roughly half a year, more than half a year....i m not too sure, i have not went fishing and yesterday, I went. After the tiring exams, it's holiday, I went fishing with a friend. I was excited to see the sea and with my fishing rod in my hand, I felt excited and yet calm at the same time, everything was familiar, the benches, the smell, even the ice-cream man.(BTW the place is esplanade, the place where i always fish) It's nice fishing again, just nice, no other word to express. At the end of fishing session, no fish, lost a few piece of equipment, and no time(friend bored, had to leave), but just a nice feeling, a fishing feeling which makes it worth all the trouble.

Fishing....It has been a while

It was nearly three months ago, when i last when fishing, and nearly four months since the last time I went fishing at sea. Many things had happened, good and bad, I was devastated and rebuilt, I suffered but I learned. These are just some natural phases of our lives. Though natural, painful no doubt. Even with my love for fishing, I could not go, too many things had happened, to a point where I don't even know what i am doing at times. Everything happened so quickly, just like a sudden gust of wind, things change. And things change, for the better it is, if we want it to. After all, I realized many things, and I am a much better person. And speaking of fishing, I think I will be back fishing very soon.

bird-watching...

I think i want to start looking at birds....it has been a while since i have started noticing there are nice, colorful and interesting birds flying around, even on the roads. But i know to fully enjoy bird watching is no easy task, it requires patience and a certain amount of skill, or else i will end up watching pigeons and crows ONLY.hahaha.and as i've said i like photography too,if you combine bird watching and photography together what do you get?? YES bird photography, and yes its no easy task, and it may sound lame, but so what??hahahaha

简简单单的爱

The title means simple love literally. Can love be simple? or it is naturally complicated?... To me, it can be simple, it doesn't have to be complicated. Once the love in your heart is simple, it can never become complicated. How do you mean simple you may ask?? love someone in a simple fashion?? un-materialistic love? I think it would be like this....i love you, (someone), and you alone... and why do i love you??? I love you means i love you, it doesn't requires a reason, and thats all you know. And i also feels that to love someone is not only about the good feeling you have for that someone, his or her irresistible good looks, i think it should be simply how much you are willing to sacrifice for him or her, to what extend are you willing to give just to hold on to the love you have for him or her..i think Love can be simple, if you just remember this 'i love you, and you alone' without thinking too much.

Someone loves fish and chips

She is the someone that has unbroken my heart. I think and I feel, to be able to learn a dish, cook it just for your love one is great joy and pure enjoyment. So, i've decided to try and do that. Hmmmm, but I am no cook, I can only cook maggi mee, water and rice( which im not too sure about it). Starting with the fish, what kind of a fish I should use?? If i were to fry it, how do I know if it is cooked already??? and what fries to use ha???whatever it is, will try my best...wish me luck!!!haha

On the Wall

On the wall of a church(the one at madras lane, the Chinese Methodist), I saw some very encouraging words, it says" Is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. So i run straight towards the goal in order to win the prize, which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above."

Cape's unbroken heart

Cape has fallen for someone lately, she is very nice, kind, cute, pretty and NOT fat!!!AT ALL!!! It's because of her, cape's heart is not broken anymore. Cape really can't stop talking to her and smiling when thinking about her. Cape has so much love in him to give and he wants to give it to her, and to her alone. Cape can't wait to meet her again, can't wait to tell her he loves her. Cape is very very happy but worried at the same time, what if he is not good enough for her, what if she doesn't wants him, as he is so far from perfect eleven !!!

the fish that i thought was a loach but...

But it was a goby type fish. i went to the batu ferringi waterfall for quite a many trips and failed to catch it. Some trips were devastated by heavy rain, where it makes it very difficult to net fish, and some by me, i went there just to remember my fish net is at home....HAHAHA...but..but...This time, or today, i successfully caught it when i just simply try netting beside rocks, and hahaha....and as my friend brought a see through plastic tank, i quickly put it in, and i thought LOACH!!!!!....but no..it looks rather like a goby, but i thought gobies are marine fishes. After taking it home, referring to some REFERENCEs, i am sure, it is no loach....If i am not wrong, it is (Pseudogobius isognathus) which according to what i read is rather special for this fish(goby)to be found in torrent streams of penang and rather well adapted to this kind of habitat.

Sucker + punch = Sucker Punch

Well, i went to watch sucker punch with some friends a few days ago, and what a movie.. Sucker punch to me was ..hmm..very loud...sometimes too 艺术(artistic), but only sometimes, fantasies too fantastic, fight scenes too video game-ish, and to be honest sometimes i don't know what i am watching, BUT......it is rather good, i did not expect it to be good, the movie really got me thinking, especially those words at the end of the movie, I've forgotten the exact words, it goes something like this " you have all the weapons you need, now, fight!!"

Cape's Broken Heart

From the bottom of my broken heart, I would like to say you are the cause of my broken heart.
From the bottom of my broken heart, I am so sad that you do not appreciate what i have done for you, what i have i gave to you, but it wasn't enough.
From the bottom of my broken heart, I give give give and give, not to say i expect to get anything back, i don't even see you show some care for me, how am i doing, why have i been so quiet lately??.........NO!!!
From the bottom of my broken heart, I love you so so so much, but people keep telling me , forget it, you don't love me, but i don't care, because i love you.
From the bottom of my broken heart, even though you don't love me back, i am fine, because i feel happy loving you , i feel it's more than enough watching your smile from afar.
From the bottom of my broken heart, even though you are with another, It's fine, I'm ok, I will always be here for you, because I love you forever and always.........

CHIAK!!!! CHIAK!!! CHIAK!!!

chiak...beautiful sound....the sound of a dslr camera capturing an image...HAHAHA...Well, a few days ago, i got my hands on a dslr camera. At first, i thought, well just a camera, capturing pictures, but NO!!!...though heavier, but i felt that's the point of the camera, the weight, the sound when capturing an image, aiming properly, zoom at an appropriate level and of course the picture quality, all this makes up to a wonderful experience, I feel like a man on a mission when taking pictures with such a camera. I can hardly put it down and return it to the owner, hahaha and so becomes my new interest.......HAHAHA....but costly though, to get one, i hope i can afford one soon.

Snake head....Not that easy

Yesterday, I went to somewhere near Bukit Merah lake, Perak, there was a stream, black water, flowing through oil palm plantation, i tried casting there, i used fake frog, for so many casts, not even a bite , but i can see fish movements everywhere. How come??? a worker at the plantation passed by and had a chat, he said this place is full of haruans 2 to 3 kgs is not uncommon. He always fish here and always get fish. he uses live frogs. How come??? i dont even get a bite...hahaha

This is my first attempt for snakeheads, its a failure. hahaha....
I will get back there and hopefully get my first snakehead......
i think there is something with the fake frog..haha

My next target fish , a snake head, and Spanner Barb

When i was fishing for spotted barbs at Sungai Air terjun, i saw a few good size haruan (Channa sp.), one uncle walking by the river told me to try for that fish, with frogs, and i thought it would be fun, hahaha.

The next fish, Spanner Barb, (Puntius lateristriga), according to what i have read, I can't find this fish in Penang Island. So, I will try at mainland.

of Spotted Barbs and Wild Carps

It has been my dream to catch a lot of spotted barbs(Puntius binotatus)since I was a kid. (Not a great dream, I know, I was a kid ma)(haha). Only now, at 21++, I can say i can catch them quite easily, i have successfully caught over a dozen on two trips to Sungai Air Terjun( the stream that flows out of penang botanic garden) and it feels so good, seeing them swimming in my aquarium.

Besides the spotted barb, I have caught another childhood dream fish, Lian hu in hokkien, I think the scientific name is Neolissochilus hendersoni, wild carp, Kejor. I caught them at Sungai batu ferringhi, at the waterfall. The fish was so pretty, the scales gold, brownish, but the body a little thin compared to spotted barbs, still pretty. Other fishes caught there were queen danios(Devario regina), the blue yellow markings on the fish, wow, beautiful.

I caught all of them using the smallest size hook, and thinnest ultra thin line, which is quite hard to handle, i can't see it even its in front of me, hahaha.

Aloewood of commerce

Yesterday, I came across a piece of aloewood at a shop, though its not of the highest grade, it smells so strong, imagine the wood of the finest grade, and I was also told of it's ridiculous price, some can fetch prices more than yellow gold with the same weight. But come to think of it, its ridiculous price isn't ridiculous at all, as the so called aloewood, agarwood or Gaharu in malay, can only be found in sick wood, and the longer the wood is sick, the finer the quality. And with this wood increasingly difficult to find, it is no wonder it is so expensive.

This is what I have found out, Aloewood, is mainly produced from the trees of the genus Aquilaria. There are several species in this genus, A. malaccensis, is the main source. A. crassna and A. sinensis are also harvested.

Starting Freshwater Fishing (with hook and line)

Since i was small, I had always been fascinated by the fishes that swim in the river flowing through the Penang botanic gardens. And since my dad is also very interested, he always brought us to net fish in the river, and one particular species of fish that lives caught my attention, if i am not wrong its the spotted barb(Puntius binotatus?? banksi???or its not a puntius???)anyway, we chinese calls it the oh ka chiak, means black back. This fish looks very clean and smart( to me la hahaha), and man they are fast swimmers, to catch them using a net ( you hold on your hand, not the jala) is very very hard, unless by surprise but normally its the fish that zooms out of nowhere then vanishes into nowhere.(so who is surprising who??)

Only when I was older, i found out that this fish is not special at all in the aquarium trade, the workers in the aquarium refers to it as 'sampah hu' means rubbish fish. But I was still very in love with this fish, every time i walk by the stream in botanical, i will stand and look and sometimes going down to catch it. I used to think up methods and devices to catch these fishes since they were so hard to catch (when i was small la) but all didn't work.HAHA!!

About a few weeks ago, when i was walking in the garden with my family, we saw a guy fishing at the stream with tiny hook and line, and bread as bait ( he did not use rod). The penang betta was among his catch, i was suprised as i have read about it in books that there are penang bettas in the stream but never saw one and here this guy got a few, quite big those bettas. Its fun to see the fishes hesitating whether to eat the bait or not in the clear water, this is one thing you cannot see when fishing at the sea.

Since then, I wanted to try fishing this way but i had not the time to do so. And a few days ago, our family went for a short trip to Taiping, and there are several streams at the foot of bukit larut or maxwell hill, the place is very pretty, so cool but there is one thing not pretty---rubbish!!!!! really destroyed everything, not only the smell, to look at it is really an eyesore.

The rubbish pile just beside the beautiful stream

And here is my chance, we fished there for quite a while but it seems like the fishes are scared of the rod or hook or swivel or i don't know. The fishes don't even come close to the bait, but when i throw bread into the water, fihes sprung out from nowhere to collect it. I can see danios, spotted barbs, and some other kind that look like the spotted barb but with no spot and silver scales instead of gold.

My dad fishing with a rod

Maybe the line was too visible?? the hook too big?? or the rod??? this is something i will only learn through experience (or someone teach me ). Hopefully i will get fish when i fish at the streams of penang and hopefully one day i will land my first lian hu (Neolissochilus hendersoni, i think, a type of fish in the mahseer family) this fish is endemic to Penang as from what I have read.

Fishing at Esplanade 22th october 2010

Date :22 oct 2010
It was just after dinner, me and my family went fishing at esplanade. Many people are already fishing when we got there. As I was setting up my things, I noticed the guy beside is rather small size and girly looking. He was alone fishing with two rods and smoking, well this aside…. Not long later, I got a fish on the line, and wow, its quite heavy, I was exited, as I reeled it in, and to my disappointment what a big hulama( gelama), but my mom told me that’s no hulama, its samgeh( means three teeth), looks very much like hulama, but when u look closely, it is totally different, samgeh has got three teeth, and hulama has got none, and samgeh's mouth is more horizontally pointed while the hulama's mouth is pointed downward. Its my first time getting this fish, I heard its not cheap especially the white variety, as there are two types commonly sold, the white one and yellow one. Back to the girly looking guy, I told my brother about it, and he said she's a girl!! Haha, looking closer he really looks like a girl, and later he caught a fish, which is a sai seng, my dad went over to look and talked to him, and after hearing him talk, only I knew he is a SHE. Haha, and I thought, a girl, fishing, at night, alone, two rods, her bike beside, smoking……..really rare, rarer than catching big fish at esplanade. HAHAHA….and later I got another fish on the line, and it was…….i don't know what it was, refer to picture, I think it’s a kind of pufferfish or related. As the hook was deep, I was trying hard to get the hook out. And a guy, which is an ang moh, came over and offer to help, haha kind, but I could not understand most of the english he is speaking, he is from Australia, and his slang too. haha….and the fish broke the hook. Is it the China made hooks? Or the fish??

The fish that I think is a type of puffer
